The Black Forest

The home of cuckoo clocks, Black Forest ham and the Black Forest gateau. The source of the Danube and Neckar rivers. Roman remains. Pure nature.

All of this can be found in and around Bad Dürrheim in the Black Forest as well as on the Baar plateau and the Swabian Alb.

Here you will find a selection of excursion destinations:
  • The pulsing heart of the Upper Black Forest is the town of Titisee-Neustadt with its beautiful views.

  • Here you will also find the most beautiful natural lake in the Black Forest. The crystal clear water of the Titisee lake attracts thousands of bathers each year. The lakeside promenade is known to be one of the best spots for a stroll in the southern Black Forest.

  • The Feldberg at 1,493 metres (4,898 ft) is the highest summit in the Black Forest. Enjoy the spectacular views and the pure nature on show.

  • The Schauinsland, a neighbour of the Feldberg and 1284 metres (4,212 ft) high, is a perfect location for a long walk as well as a unique underground experience. In the Schauinsland you will discover 800 years of mining history in the largest silver mine in southerm Germany.

  • Our ancestors used to be terrified while making their way through this wild gorge: the so-called Höllental (Engl: Hell Valley). Today it is a great location to explore.

  • The wild Wutachschlucht gorge in the southern Black Forest: descend into a rustic and quaint world.

  • Find out about the Southern Black Forest Nature Park here, where conservation finds harmony with recreation, economy and the wild.

  • At 500 hectares it is the largest lake in the Black Forest - the Schluchsee. A paradise for rowing, sailing, hiking and cycling. A walk around the lake covers 19 km.

  • St. Blasien also worth a visit. The baroque monastery town welcomes you to the Alb valley at the foot of the Feldberg. Enjoy the nature, culture and healthy climate of the southern Black Forest.

  • The Baden state brewery "Rothaus" - hidden in the Upper Black Forest - was founded by the St. Blasien Benedictine monastery in the year 1791 and today still offers the finest barley beer.

  • Eagles, Falcons and Owls at the Vogelpark Steinen bird park display their breathtaking flying skills twice daily during the high season.

  • The Erdmann's Cave in Hasel is one of the oldest limestone caves in Germany. The total length of the caves is 2,185 metres (7,169 ft). Huge stalactites and stalagmites enhance the legendary fascination of the caves.

  • In the southern Black Forest mountains you will find the Steinwasen Park. Here you can walk or sway along the world's longest adventure rope bridge. Observe the European wild cats or explore the 350 million years of the earth's history, while your children will have great fun stroking the donkeys and rabbits or enjoying the toboggan.

  • Schwarzwald Park Löffingen: experience the nature and animals, fun and games. Toboggan runs, raft trips, classic car white-water rides. Watch and even feed the lynx, wild boar, bears, apes and bison. Not forgetting the falconry display which takes place daily..
